Mississippi Bill of Sale Forms

The Mississippi bill of sale form solidifies the contractual agreement of the sale of a personal property item for an agreed-upon monetary amount. The finer points of the transaction are recorded, such as the buyer, seller, article, price, terms of sale, and confirming endorsements. This document can serve as valid proof of ownership, identifying specifics of the details of the exchange to be used for registration purposes in some cases.

Bill of Sale Types

Motor Vehicle (DMV) Bill of Sale Form – Designed to demonstrate the inner workings involved in the transaction of a vehicle.

Boat (Vessel) Bill of Sale Form – Determines the specifics of an exchange of a boat for a dollar amount.

Firearm (Gun) Bill of Sale Form – Intended to convey the material facts surrounding the sale of a gun.

Vehicle Registration Forms

• A finalized bill of sale
• A transferred certificate of title along with an accurately filled Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form 78-015)
• Evidence of vehicle identification number associated with the vehicle to calculate the tax fee.
• A Mississippi State driver’s license or identification card
• Adequate funds to compensate registration fees

Boat (Vessel) Registration Forms

• A fully filled-out bill of sale
• A completed Mississippi Motor Boat Registration Application (Form Rev 2016)
• Ownership documentation with a manufacturer’s certificate of origin, or a notarized letter of stipulating transfer of possession from the previous owner.
• Proof of paid tax payment for the boat involved in the transaction.
• Payment to settle all fees and taxes for registration and titling of the vessel.

Firearm Registration Forms

Mississippi does not compel residents to effectively register a firearm with the state or to obtain a permit before purchase. A standard NICS background check is only required for sales associated with a licensed dealer, and will not be necessary for private sales. Open carry is allowed in approved areas, and permitless carry is acceptable as long as the weapon is obscured within a purse or bag. There are exceptions to this rule, so make sure to check with your county sheriff to inquire about the specifics. To apply for a Concealed Carry Firearm Permit, submit the following at your closest Mississippi Firearm Permit facility:

• A notarized Mississippi Application for a Concealed Carry Firearm Permit (Form Rev 4-17)
• An original fingerprint identification card for the applicant
• An official passport-style color photos
• Two forms of valid identification including one from each of the following categories:
  1. An active Mississippi driver’s ID card or driver’s license
  2. A current passport, original social security card, or original birth certificate
• Payment for all necessary permit fees
